Backwoods of Alabama (10th September)
We leave Mobile through the Delta country ... an area of thick trees, rivers, lakes and bayous. Many times the road is elevated and we are surrounded by swamps. The area eventually turns into farming land, and the plantation houses of the 1800's appear. We arrive in the Literary capital of Alabama, Monroeville, which has produced writers of the caliber of Harper Lee (To Kill a Mocking Bird) and Truman Capote (In Cold Blood). We see the Court House, the layout of which was used in the film of To Kill A Mocking Bird and Ted gets in the act of judge. We move to Georgiana next to visit the boyhood home of Hank Williams Snr, with a number of items of memorabilia. Our night stop is at Montgomery, the capital of Alabama.
